Students of Department of Environmental Sciences, Pratibha College of Commerce and Computer Studies, Pune visited an orphanage in Chinchwad, Pune on Tuesday, 23rd October 2018. Punaruththan Samarasta Gurukulam is home for 320 students from Nomadic Tribes, Denofied Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. It has also children from slums from PCMC and child-labourers. 30 student volunteers from (B. Sc. Regular) visited the place. Our team reached there at 3:30 pm and volunteers interacted with students and shared their experiences on different aspects. Session of Interaction was initiated by Dr. Manvi Singh (convener) briefing them about importance of hygiene followed by showing them an animated video focusing on pollution, diseases, hygiene, medication, water saving etc. Students enjoyed video and participated in question-answer session also.
The team spent a little over 3 hours with these children and distributed snacks and sweets to them. Volunteers also donated clothes, stationary products, chocolates, etc. It was indeed very satisfying experience for the students as they could bring smiles on children’s faces however for a brief period. They realized that one must contribute and understand his/her social responsibilities towards society.
