Sports Dept Activity

Student centric methods, such as experiential learning, participative learning and problem solving methodologies are used for enhancing learning experience

Experiential Learning : Is a process of learning through experience and is more specifically defined as “learning through reflection on doing”. All activities carried out at our gymkhana/ physical education and sports department are actually physical participation of students/ players. While practicing for any sports event or at the time of physical education evaluation, students have the real life experience as they only and physically take part and thus have experience of Sporting event. Sports competitions are very much realistic for experiential learning of students. We, at PCCCS, try to give these experiences of practice, actual competition and learning through these actual life conditions of win and loss; to overcome from these emotions to practical learning for 150 students’ players. Every AY, our 15-18 sports teams (both team and individual event) take experience of sports and learn the ‘practice make life perfect’ rule at the individual level. Many activities which are planned in this experiential learning method are as follows.
Sports practice
Sports competition
Treks (selective players)
Annual Sports event at Intra Class(our college) level for all students
Physical Education scheme lectures cum practice and yearly assessment through physical fitness test(All FY UG students)
Gym training, fun activities, recreational games(optional for all)
Earn and learn scheme participants at sports department have leading and volunteering sports practices of students

Participative Learning : Participatory Learning and Action is a family of approaches, methods, attitudes, behaviours and relationships, which enable and empower people to share, analyze and enhance their knowledge of their life and conditions, and to plan, act, monitor, evaluate and reflect Participative learning method is used at our sports department as a normal practice of learning. All the above mentioned activities are participative mode also. Special cases are Sports Competition participation like team events and individual events.( Football, Kabaddi, Archery, Yoga etc.) Also, earn and learn scheme benefactor – two students each year get hands on training of sports event management like inter college or annual sports events competition preparation/ volunteers etc. These students also choose the physical education career option after having participation in these events as student leader. Ex. Akshay Pardeshi, Reema Prajapati, Avinash Deshmukh, Saloni Jadhav, Gouri Wagh, Kajol Kutti, Akshay Yewale, Nupoor More.

Problem Based Learning (PBL): I): Is a student-centered pedagogy in which students learn about a subject through the experience of solving an open-ended problem found in trigger material. The PBL process does not focus on problem solving with a defined solution, but it allows for the development of other desirable skills and attributes. This includes knowledge acquisition, enhanced group collaboration and communication
All team event sports practice and sports competition participation were based on Problem Based learning method. Our college provides limited ground facility for practice purpose. So, team event practices were planned and carried out by student’s level only. They have made their own ground available and also opponent team for practice match. To build the team from many students, team captain planned the practice such that they build their own team.
Badminton player solved their practice problem by searching the badminton court, also team members and practice slots available. Special practice such as Bangalore Advance coaching was the part of her Problem based learning.( Higher order Coaching)
Some students like Anjum Shaikh, Akshata Katre, Arti Bahenwal grab the opportunity by taking admission to our college after learning that their original talent will be nurtured here and will get equal opportunity.
Coaching of various Experts from sports event like Football, Yoga, Softball, were made available for these team events. This availability of expert coach was useful to players as they get advance skill knowledge, practice and also some psychological benefits.s
Early hours practice time, holiday practice and theory lectures of skills, knowledge about diet, psychological factors etc. are some areas where players learn to solve the problems of scarcity of recourses.
Personal counseling and mentoring of high achievers in sports like Arti B, Akshay P, Akshata K, Reema P. etc are some cases where students solved their personal problems with our guidance and get focused on sports career.

PE &S, Department and Director of Physical Education are well aware of these methodologies and also have their personal experiences, which make them the expert of all the three learning methods. So students get best participatory learning and problem based experience in Sports arena.
