The scheme aims to develop well-rounded students from rural, economically disadvantaged backgrounds. It provides financial assistance and work experience opportunities to help them pursue higher education and contribute to society. Students work in various roles like office work, technical tasks, and fieldwork, earning an honorarium for their work. The scheme promotes a strong work ethic and bridges the gap between rural and urban India.
The scheme is at present being undertaken at the post-graduate level on the university campus as well as at the graduate level in the affiliated colleges and recognised institutions under the jurisdiction of the University of Pune. Financial assistance to the extent of fifty percent of the expenditure incurred by the affiliated Colleges/ Institute is reimbursed to the concerned on submitting the necessary papers to the Director, Board of Students’ Welfare. Under this scheme those students who are interested in joining are to fill the necessary application form, which is then scrutinized by an appropriate committee. The list of students who have been finally enrolled in the scheme are to be sent to the Director, Board of Students’ Welfare on or before 15th September every year, subject to the condition that the College / Institution has been given permission to undertake the scheme. The students enrolled under the scheme are given the following types of work namely-That increase their skills in areas of their study, office work, technical work and field work. However when the distribution of work is given it is seen that all students get equal opportunity to get all different kinds of work and that each student gets eighty percent of technical work and twenty percent of fieldwork. Office work includes working at the Library or any other office of the institute.
Each student is expected to work for three hours (3) daily.
Students working under this scheme are paid an honorarium of Rs.55 per hour as per the revised rates effective 1 February 2017. Payment is made as per the attendance sheet, which is to be maintained by the institute/college/university. The students are requested to open a bank account at their respective places and cheques make payments. At the end of the year the respective institute/college is requested to submit the annual accounts for the scheme when the central audit scheme is undertaken.
